Welcome to Page Elements

The tutorials within the site were created primarily for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota to supplement classroom learning of software used in media creation by connecting these ideas to communications concepts.

The tutorial for Adobe Photoshop 6, a complex photo-editing program, covers basic information and concepts such as how to digitize photographs, repair them, adjust color, and prepare them for publication on the web or in print.

The tutorial for Macromedia Dreamweaver 4, an easy-to-use web design program, builds an increasingly sophisticated web site from start to finish.

Finally, in the Apple Final Cut Pro 3 tutorial, basic techniques for working with the digital video editing program are covered along with basic conceptual information designed to help students get started with broadcast projects.

Each tutorial offers step-by-step instructions for basic uses of the programs, as well as conceptual explanations and term definitions. Important terms are linked to pop-up boxes that contain definitions of those terms, and other links provide pop-up boxes that contain general instructions for common tasks. All terms are included in the Glossary, and the Resources pages provide links to outside sources of information regarding the key concepts covered in the tutorials.

To get started, click on the name of the program listed on the left side of the screen. If you have any questions regarding anything in the tutorial, please click on the 'Help Me!' link.
