Final Cut Pro - Module I

VII. Importing from files: Page 1 of 2

Sometimes, producers might need to use previously taken video, called stock footage, in a particular video segment. In that case, the video likely already has been digitized and archived somewhere. In this step, users will learn how to bring already digitized movie clips into Final Cut for use in the program.

This information also is useful in cases where a project has been saved in a location other than where the clips are stored. This might be the result of a mistake - for example, saving the project to a folder on a server while the clips themselves are stored on the local hard drive of a computer - or the result of a change in location.

To follow this step, use the file "tigerpractice.mov", available for downloading here. Instructions.

  1. From the File menu, choose Import. A short submenu appears. Choose Files…
  2. The Choose Files dialog box appears. Browse to the downloaded file, "tigerpractice.mov" Click on the file, then click Open.
  3. The clip appears in Final Cut's browser window.
