Final Cut Pro - Module I
III. The Final Cut interface: Clip Settings: Page
1 of 3
The Clip Settings area of the Final Cut Log and Capture
screen has the main function of allowing producers to decide what part
of the clips they're trying to bring into the program will actually appear.
For example, using the Clip Settings tab, producers can choose to import
only the video, only the audio, or both the audio and video together.
This is useful in reducing the file size of the clips.
Video clips that contain audio use the most memory, video files stripped
of sound come in second, with plain audio files coming in last in terms
of memory usage. If memory storage is limited, a producer might consider
importing all the clips as video only and provide a voiceover in a separate
audio file.
It is also useful regarding the quality of the clips
being used. If the images shot are good, but the audio has distracting
noises in the background, it might work better to bring in the video only
and record a voiceover. Likewise, if an interview clip provides a great
sound bite, a producer might use the sound from the interview as a voice
over other video in the segment. This avoids showing too much "talking-head"
video, which can be boring for viewers.
This step explores the Clip Settings tab in the Log
and Capture window.
