Final Cut Pro - Module I

IV. The Final Cut interface: Capture Settings

The final tab in the Log and Capture window is Capture Settings. This box is used to help ensure the process of digitizing the tape goes smoothly. Producers can choose the type of equipment they are using and designate where the clips should be saved as they are imported.

As mentioned in Step I of this module, FireWire is required by Final Cut. This piece of equipment links the digital video camera to the computer with the program to facilitate transfer of video. On the Capture Settings tab, users can choose what kind of FireWire is available on their system by clicking on the pop-up menu to the right of Device Control. The default setting is NTSC, which is a standardized format for videotape in North America. This can also be changed to PAL, which is the standardized format for videotape in most of the rest of the world.

Capture Settings

The type of camera and speed of the FireWire connection can be selected in the Capture Settings box by clicking on the pop-up menu to the right of Capture/Input. This information should be set by default when the program is installed; more specific information about this setting can be found in the owner's manual for the digital video camera being used.

Next, Step V, The Scratch Disk.
