Macromedia Dreamweaver - Module IV

Introduction: Sophisticated Layouts

In previous modules, a basic web site was created and text, color, images, and movies were added to the Home page of the site. All tools used provided simple ways to enhance web pages, but they also could be restrictive; images have only limited placement options, text can only be certain sizes, and only certain colors can be used successfully on the web.

All of these restrictions have prompted designers to come up with alternative ways to layout web pages. For sophisticated layouts that use tables, frames and forms, web editors are a boon for designers, eliminating the need to write long, detailed, complex lines of HTML code.

This module shows users how to create tables on a web page for uses such as image placement, how to create forms for uses such as visitor feedback, and how to create framed pages. It also discusses the pros and cons of each of these layout methods, and discusses of a relatively new tool: cascading style sheets.

  1. Creating Tables
  2. Adding to a Table
  3. Forms
  4. Frames
  5. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
